OMAHA — South Sioux City brought home one medal from the 2025 Nebraska State Track and Field Championships at Burke Stadium.
Junior Madelynn Bohnet earned a medal with a best effort of 10 feet, 6 inches in the Class A girls pole vault Wednesday afternoon. She cleared her first two attempts at 9 feet and 9-6, then hit on her second attempts at 10 feet and 10-6 before just missing on her final attempt at 11 feet, which would have bettered her personal best of 10-8 at last week’s district meet.
In other action Wednesday, the 3,200-meter relay team of Luke McGinty, Leandro Magana, Melchi Munzambi and Melusi Ngeleka placed 12th in a time of 8:25.87.
Other SSC action saw Avan Salas competing in the 200-meter preliminaries (23.28, 24th) and McGinty running in the 400-meter dash (19th, 52.13).
On Thursday, Zulema Godinez Ponce took part in the girls shot put and finished 15th with a best throw of 34-3.
Athletes from Homer, Ponca and Tri County Northeast will compete in Class C action Friday and Saturday.
