South Sioux City scored three unanswered goals to pull away with a 4-1 win over Mount Michael to claim the River Cities Conference title Thursday at the Cardinal Athletic Complex.
Gustavo Garcia-Mojica scored 10 minutes into the contest before the Knights answered five minutes later to tie the match.
Garcia-Mojica picked up his second marker of the game late in the first half to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead at the break, and they put the match away in the second half with scores by Cesar Alferez and Greco Alvarez to take a 12-4 record into district play next week.
The Cardinals are the No. 2 seed in the A-5 district and will host Papillion-LaVista (6-7) in a. 6 p.m. game Monday at the Cardinal Athletic Complex. The winner will face either top-seeded Millard West (11-5) or No. 4 seed Millard South (4-11) at a time and site to be determined by the NSAA.
