PONCA — The three area schools showed very well and put a number of qualifiers through to next week’s state track meet after Thursday’s C-3 district meet at the Ponca Sports Complex.
While Pender’s girls and Hartington Cedar Catholic’s boys ran away with the team titles, the three area schools were in the mix for runner-up honors, with the Homer boys edging Ponca for second place and the Homer girls finishing 10 points behind Wisner-Pilger in the race for the runner-up plaque.
Ponca’s girls finished fourth in the 10-team race and Tri County Northeast was sixth. The TCNE boys placed a solid fifth overall.
The top two individuals and winning relay teams earned trips to next week’s State Track and Field Championships at Burke Stadium in Omaha. Wild card selections were to be made Friday by the NSAA.
