Walter A. Beermann, 84, of Dakota City passed away on April 23, 2026.
Walter (Walt), the son of Albert and Amanda (Schoenrock) Beermann, was born Aug. 9, 1941 at Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended Brushy Bend country school and graduated in 1959 from South Sioux City High School.
From an early age, Walt had a love for and innate ability to create and build. As a junior in high school, he built a 14-foot run-about boat. As a senior, he built a 20-foot cabin cruiser that he ended up trading for a new 1959 Chevrolet convertible. Walt was well-known in the construction business for his creative, unique homes, and specializing in unusual commercial projects. Walt was proud of heading the renovation of the Arnold’s Park rollercoaster in 1989 and building the racetrack now called The Raceway. Walt’s experience in the construction business gave him the skill with numbers and business acumen for his endeavor into financial services. He served as Regional Vice President of Primerica, where he received several awards.
Walt’s enthusiasm and love for sport cannot be overstated. He was an avid and talented water and snow skier. He enjoyed participating in many regional water shows featuring his single-leg barefoot trick.
Walt, a car enthusiast, had a fascination for rebuilding antique cars. He rebuilt a 1972 MG which won awards at various car shows.
Walt’s curiosity never waned and led him on a wonderful journey of learning and discovery in many disciplines. He gave generously of his time and talents to many clients, friends and family.
On Oct. 13, 1963, Walt and Carol Baldwin were married. They had two children, Michael and Michele. On May 25, 1979, Walt and Carole Beyeler (daughter Marne) were united in marriage and had one child, Brent.
Survivors include his wife, Carole Beermann; sons Michael (Anne) and Brent (Amy) Beermann, daughters Michele (Brian) Hafey and Marne Clark; sister Ellen Pals, brother Allen Beermann; grandchildren Cristina (Scott) Lake, Brooke Beermann, Eon Hafey, Ashley Beermann, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Amanda Beermann; and sister Norma Pearson.
Contributions in memory of Walter Beermann may be given to St. Croix Hospice, South Sioux City; and Salem Lutheran Church, Dakota City.
A memorial is scheduled for Friday, May 15 at 11 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, Dakota City.
