Wet conditions forced a last-second move of Thursday’s SSC Invitational, but didn’t slow down the host Cardinal boys.
The SSC boys were runner-up to Yankton in the 15-team race that was moved from South Ridge Golf Course to Siouxland Freedom Park.
Nabiil Yussuf and Anoni Rosas had medal-winning results as the Cardinals’ four scoring runners all finished in the top 20. SSC finished with 68 team points, just six more than the winning Yankton Bucks, who were led by race medalist Luke Feimer.
Yussuf was the first Cardinal to break the 5,000-meter tape, taking seventh overall in a time of 17:10.3. Rosas followed six places behind in 13th with a time of 17:23.4.
Angel Vargas Vazquez and Gavin Joy followed one behind the other in 17th and 18th place. Michael Munzambi was 21st.
Ponca’s boys did not have a team score with only four runners, but Kole Krusemark finished in the top 10 with a ninth-place time of 17:16.0.
The Lady Cardinals were fifth out of 11 full teams competing and had a medalist with Kalianne Norton, who finished 15th in a time of 20:56.3
Following her was Abigail Cisneros (26th), Payton Derochie (32nd), Arianna Ruby Escobedo (44th), and Jasmin Orozco (64th) to round out SSC’s team score.
Ponca’s girls had three runners competing. Jaelen Templeman just missed a top 15 medal placing, finishing 17th in a time of 21:09.4
