Wagner to return in school administrative role

At Monday’s South Sioux City Board of Education meeting, an SSC alumni and former teacher was announced to be taking over a new administrative position in the district beginning in the 2025-26 school year.

Drew Wagner will be the school’s new Assistant Superintendent for School Improvement and Leadership Development, according to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rony Ortega. The position was approved by the school board at Monday’s meeting.

“We are thrilled to announce Drew Wagner to this position,” Dr. Ortega said. “This is a reimagined position designed to align with our district’s current strategic goals. This thoughtful selection builds upon the strengths of our leadership team and supports our vision to foster community, collaboration, and measurable progress.”

Wagner is a former teacher in the SSC Community Schools district and has experience as an elementary principal. He also has a distinguished military background, where he implemented leaderhsip academies for senior leaders, following a realistic and strategic plan to equip leaders with the tools they need to succeed. His servant and transformational leadership approach emphasizes hands-on coaching and mentoring, empowering others to maximize their potential.

In his new role, Drew will lead a rigorous school improvement process, spend half his day in schools, work closely with directors and principals to support day-to-day district operations, and continue to ensure alignment between the district’s strategic plan and school goals. He will also be responsible for developing and growing leaders across the district, ensuring a robust pipeline of effective and empowered leadership at every level. Drew’s ability to foster collaboration and a positive culture will undoubtedly strengthen our schools and community.
